Internet Marketing Ninjas Blog

Taking a Blog Break for 5-6 weeks.

This next month I’ll be busier than I’ve ever been….so I’ll be taking a break from blogging for a little over a month.

Next week I’ll be locking myself in my office while I work on rewriting webuildpages.com. There’s so many services on there there that are outdated, and we haven’t even shown off our "writing content" side. I’ve been rewriting it for months now, and have collected a ton of chicken scratch, but I’ve realized that the only way it’s going to all get written is if I take a whole week devoted to mainly writing this out  (then ~2 weeks to design around (we’ve got a new look coming too).

I’ve got a handful of new employees that I’ve been  training on a daily basis (we’re making more Link Ninjas). We’ve also been video taping the training sessons, and assigning projects based on each training lesson.  One day we might just sell those training videos.

We’ve also got a great programmer on staff and we’re creating great internal tools for tracking and recording our work and progress. And creating the world best (and non-shared) database of great sites willing to offer advertising where related.

My wife is also getting rather plump, as our second baby is due Nov 16 (and I’m predicting Nov 9th…which is 3 weeks from today)….

I guess that one of the items I don’t need to worry about for about 5 weeks is going to be my blog. So yes, I’ll be taking ~5 weeks off from blogging.

I was thinking that when I return I might start blogging more on "Here’s how to build links….do this, and then this, etc" as opposed to "This is a great backlink to get….now go get them" postings.

I’m also toying with the idea of charging a small fee which allows you to read those complete posts (part free…."to read the rest, please subscribe here")…I could also throw in some private tools into that (no, not the "find old sites tool"…but other tools that are Killer…just private). Thougths on that?

I’ll, of course, post when the baby comes as well, and perhaps a thing or 2 in the coming 4-5 weeks….

Oh yea, and looks like there’ll be a Link Ninja class in a few months…stay tuned.

We’ve got openings for 7 new link building clients over the next 2 months, want to be one of them?

  1. Enjoy the time away from the blogosphere, and the best of luck to you and the Mrs. during the last few weeks of pregnancy. Enjoy your sleep.

  2. Jim, you will be missed over the next few weeks, but good for you to step away to take care of business and family.

I will definitely be willing to part with some pocket cash to get extended posts on your link advice when you come back.

  3. Congrats on the baby Jim!

By the way, YES I do want to be one of your 7 new link building clients. I filled out your contact form. I hope to be working with you soon. 🙂

  4. Yep – as above Jim. Best wishes on your imminent arrival!

To be honest I’m not sure about paying to see whole posts. This blog is a good platform for you and I’d keep it reaching as wide an audience as possible. There’s always problems when something free moves to a pay model. What about building on what you have done here – and setting up a private forum? It’s a walk in the park on the technical side – most of the packages are geared up for that model already.

You can always promote it from here (with post highlights etc.) and I’d certainly be one of the first people to sign up.

  5. Hey Jim, A break that is well deserved and I can certainly relate to the need for updating a company website. Mine is still circa 2001.

Best of luck with your imminent new addition to the family!

  6. Your wisdom will be missed Jim. Best wishes to you and your family. Look forward to the new look. And . . . I do not endorse adding a subscription. You probably gain a lot more credibility and marketing power by expanding your reach. Sell the tools to the expanded audience. Just my opinion.

  7. As long as you come back. If you don’t I’ll send my ninjas out to find your ninjas. And congratulations on being a daddy again. There is nothing better in life.

  8. Personally, I’d prefer if your blog didn’t go paid. Although I work for a growing company which is more than happy to fund my SEO education, if I wasn’t here I’d be optimizing non-profits, trying to give a voice to worthy causes on a small/nonexistent budget. A lot of non-profits could use more online exposure but simply can’t buy their way onto the serps like big biz can. While this is my favorite SEO blog (the stuff I’ve learned here forms the foundation of our SEO philosphy), my personal feeling is that you could help a lot more people by sharing your info rather than selling it… but hey, it’s your business, your blog…

Here’s wishing you a happy and productive break – congratulations on the upcoming baby! If you/the WBP crew will be in Chicago, you may run into us there.

  9. Well have a productive blogging break Jim, wish you the best.

Great idea blogging on “Here’s how to build links”. Many of us will probably follow you on the “small fee charge” for good information on links and “killer tools”, we know you’ll give the best to your readers.

I’ll be waiting for the Link Ninja Class…

Wish you the best with your new baby and thanks Jim for all the good information, keep it up!

  10. Congratulations on the imminent arrival Jim.

I’m happy to pay for access here, but I’m not sure what it’ll accomplish – and it may be to your detriment. I doubt you’ll see enough cash to make it worthwhile so I don’t see it as a profit center. It may cut down on spam I guess, but I don’t read here for the comments – I read for the original blog posts. And as noted above, it may substantially cut down on any advertising/promotion you receive as a result of this site.

Plus, if you’re doing it for cash, and don’t see much return, there might not be as much incentive for you to post. If you leave it out as eye candy for prospective clients to prove you’re an authority in the industry then it’s to your benefit to keep it current – and I like that :).

But whatever is best for you. I’ll continue to read either way.

    See you in Vegas!

P.S. Can anyone tell me what 4+5 is? I don’t have a calculator handy.
